Josh Fernandez was recently selected to serve as a Page in the House of Commons for this coming autumn's sitting of the house. Fernandez will be studying in Ottawa at the same time at the University of Ottawa where he’ll focus on Modern Languages.

Fleming Elementary will be inviting current students and older alumni to head back to school on Friday, May 31from 4 - 8 PM. In the early part of the evening, the school will host an Open House (from 4 -6 PM) which will include school tours,  displays and an assembly. A special Fleming video project, which was created by the entire student body just for this celebration, will be featured. 

Students from two Drawing and Painting 11/12 classes at Vancouver Technical were thrilled that their "Expressive Paintings" will be on display at the 2013 "Heart-Mind" Conference this May 9 -11 at UBC. This conference  "How Mindfulness Helps Children Thrive" is organized by the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education.

On Friday, May 3, students in grades 4 and 5 at Queen Mary Elementary School were experimenting with methods to clean water samples containing suspended particulate material. The week before, the classes had taken a field trip to Stanley Park where they got a first-hand look at the diversity of marine organisms in the intertidal zone. 

Last month was a big one for the Churchill Ballerina Project. In a rush of choreographed dance outside the Broadway skytrain station (by the "Walking Feet" statues), two Dance 12 classes converged and danced up a storm for another other four dance classes, students from Churchill's photography classes as well as many parents and passersby.

ALT is a pilot project that brings Emily Carr students together with students from the Britannia Secondary School Alternative program to make art and learn together.

This year, 18 students from two different and diverse neighbourhoods in Vancouver came together to create a show at The Fire Hall Arts Centres, B.C. Buds Spring Festival.  It was the third year that the students of Grandview have been asked to take part in the festival and the first year that Quilchena participated.

The 6th annual BC Mining Week Community Fair provided students from across Vancouver with an educational immersion into the geology and mining. Created by the Mineral Resources Education Program of BC in partnership with the Association for Mineral Exploration BC, the fair was designed to build a better understanding about exploration and mining practices, BC’s mineral resources and the rich mining history of the province.

Tuesday, April 23 was a great day to release salmon fry at Spanish Banks. Buses full of eager Grade 4s descended on the beach and the nearby creek and soon a stream of eager young biologists disembarked and headed to the nearby stream.
