HN: Impasse Procedures

Impasse procedures are contained in the Labour Relations Code.  Either party may request the services of a mediation officer who is appointed by the Minister of Labour, and the trade union may not strike nor the employer lockout until the mediator has signed out of the dispute.  In any event, the procedure for a strike vote and/or lockout is contained in the Labour Relations Code.  A period of 48-hours notice must be given by either party to the other in the event of a strike or of a lockout.  Strikes and lockouts are prohibited during the term of a collective agreement by the Labour Relations Code.
