Info for Early Learners

Parents who are preparing to register their child for Kindergarten or whose child(ren) are entering their first year of school will find the following information helpful.

Child care providers

A number of Vancouver elementary schools rent space to private, licensed child care providers. 

Strong Start Centres

Vancouver has 18 Strong Start Centres operating in elementary schools.This program is for parents and caregivers with children ages zero – four and there is no cost to families but the parent/caregiver is required to remain and participate in the program. It is not necessary to have English as a first language to attend the drop in programs.

Full day Kindergarten

Full-Day Kindergarten will be available to 2,120 students in Vancouver in the 2010-11 school year, and will be expanded to all Kindergarten-aged students in 2011-12. Sixty per cent of Vancouver students will have access to FDK in the first year of implementation.
