Limited EOC Teaching List "Pilot Project" - For Former VSB Employee Only

Former employees (including retired teachers) may apply to the Limited EOC Teaching List.

  • "Former Employee" means a teacher formerly employed by the VBE on a continuing contract, who holds a current B.C. Teaching Certificate and is a practicing member of the B.C. College of Teachers, but does not include teachers who have been terminated by the VSB.
  • "Limited EOC" means a Former Employee who has been hired under the terms and conditions of employment set out in the agreement for a pilot project for a "Limited EOC Teaching List" between the Board of School Trustees of School District No. 39 (Vancouver) and the Vancouver Teachers' Federation.

Some notes regarding the Limited EOC Teaching List:

  1. Former employees may apply to the Limited EOC Teaching List. Applications will be accepted for the Limited EOC Teaching List commencing July 01 and ending December 31 in each of the years 2009 and 2010.
  2. Former Employees hired to the Limited EOC Teaching List will be hired only for the period from their date of hire to the Limited EOC Teaching List until 2011 June 30. Removal from the list at the conclusion of the 2010-2011 school year will not be subject to the grievance procedures.
  3. Limited EOCs will only be called out in times of teacher shortage and in teaching subject areas defined by the VSB.
  4. Limited EOCs may only work a maximum of 50 (fifty) days in the school year.
  5. The hiring of former Employees under this pilot project is at the sole discretion of the Board. Former Employees are not guaranteed hiring onto the Limited EOC Teaching List. The Board also reserves the right to limit the number of Former Employees hired for the Limited EOC Teaching List.

How Do I Apply?

To be considered for the Limited EOC Teaching List, former employees must complete a Limited EOC Application Form.

Application Forms will be available for pick-up at the Vancouver Board of Education:

The completed Limited EOC Application Form should be submitted to the Vancouver Board of Education - Human Resources Division (address listed above).

FAXED APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Two (2) Professional Reference Forms are required – one of which must be from your most recent supervisor. Please note that before your application can be considered, the Human Resources Division must receive the reference form from both of your professional references.

  • One of the Professional Reference Forms must be completed by the applicant’s most recent supervisor (i.e. Principal).
  • It is recommended that the second Professional Reference Form be completed by an individual who is best able to evaluate your abilities in accordance with the criteria listed on the Professional Reference Form.
  • The Professional Reference Form must be submitted to Human Resources directly by the referee. In order to ensure confidentiality, a Professional Reference Form must not be returned by the applicant.
  • The referees should mail the Professional Reference Form directly to the Human Resources Division at the address listed above, or forward by fax to 604-713-5260.

How Is My Application Processed?

Completed applications are carefully reviewed and processed as follows:

Step One – Review of Application and Verification of VBE Employment Record

  • An application is not reviewed by the selection committee until two (2) Professional Reference Forms are received.
  • The Human Resources Officer - Teaching verifies the applicant’s employment record with the VBE.

Step Two – Interview

  • Selected applicants are contacted by telephone for an interview. Please wait for the Human Resources Division to contact you.
  • Applicants not selected for an interview are contacted by mail.

Step Three – Sign-On

  • After the interview, applicants recommended for hire for the Limited EOC Teaching List are contacted by telephone, and invited to attend a sign-on session. This session provides a review of the SEMS, and time for completion of documentation. Applicants are not hired until completion of the sign-on session.
  • Applicants not recommended for hire are contacted by mail.
