Early Education

The Vancouver Board of Education is working with a variety of Community and Ministry Groups, including the United Way and Mt. Pleasant Family Centre to support the implementation of a pilot project in Vancouver to address the settlement needs of young refugee children under the age of 6 and their primary care givers. Ready, Set, Learn Programs take place in every elementary school in Vancouver and are open to families and caregivers with children who are 3 and 4 year olds. The purpose of the program is to give children and their families/caregivers resources and access to resources that will enable children to have rich learning experiences prior to entering formal schooling.

StrongStart is for parents and caregivers with children ages zero – five years old. Vancouver has 19 StrongStart Centres operating in elementary schools.

This program is for families/caregivers with four and five year old children who will be entering Kindergarten in the current year. The program provides experiences and resources to help children begin their formal education with a foundation in early learning that can be nurtured at home prior to entering Kindergarten in September.
