Building MaintenanceThe Vancouver School Board employs a variety of Construction and Maintenance Trades Persons to work on projects and building upgrades throughout the district. Qualified Trades people from the following unions are dispatched from the various union halls as required:
Bricklayers, Carpenters, Cement Masons, Electricians, Heat and Frost Insulators, Machinists, Painters, Plumbing and Pipefitting, and Sheet Metal.

Cafeteria WorkThe elementary lunch program involves part time work serving hot lunch to elementary school students. The secondary program employs chefs, bakers, and general kitchen help to prepare meals and instruct student workers.

General LabourersGrounds Maintenance / Material Services
Landscaping and grounds maintenance work requires qualified gardeners and a supporting work force of general labourers, drivers and equipment operators. In addition there is a garage to repair and maintain Vancouver School Board vehicles and equipment.
An apprentice program for gardeners is also available. Students are encouraged to apply for seasonal work which is available mainly from April to September.

Heating, Cleaning and Building SecurityThe Operations Department has opportunities for employment for people with training in Power Engineering (to operate heating plants and do minor maintenance), janitorial work (cleaning), and building security (lock up, building rentals). The job titles are Building Engineer and Custodian.

Learning and Information TechnologyOpportunities in Information Technology are in the user support, technical and programming fields. We operate with a state-of-the-art facility with leading edge technology. Office Support BRequired Qualifications:
- May require up to two (2) years post-secondary education and up to three (3) years related experience.
- Must be able to meet VSB standard for keyboarding speed (35+ net wpm), Word or Word Perfect (average +65%), and Excel (average +65%), current email and internet.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain an Occupational First Aid Level 2 certificate.
- Ability to communicate in a second language is an asset and may be required in certain positions.
- Performs bookkeeping and provides a wide variety of clerical assistance in accordance with established Board policies, practices and regulations.
- Work may include processing and providing information, preparing correspondence and a variety of reports and maintain bookkeeping records.
- Establishes and maintains contacts with staff, students and the general public.
- Operates a variety of office and computer equipment.
- May provide direction to support staff.

- May require up to three (3) years post-secondary education and up to four (4) years related experience.
- Must be able to meet VSB standard for keyboarding speed (45+ net wpm), Word or Word Perfect (average +75%), and Excel (average +75%), Accounting assessment, current email and internet.
- Minimum of four (4) years experience in Accounting.
- Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain an Occupational First Aid Level 2 certificate.
- Ability to communicate in a second language is an asset and may be required in certain positions.
- Performs accounting or clerical work requiring knowledge of procedures and regulations
- Work involves a variety of duties including reconciling and processing accounts, non-standard invoices and other general financial statements, composing and preparing correspondence and reports and maintaining a variety of reports, inventories and records for internal and external use.
- Liases with School Administrators, teachers and other staff in addition to the general public
- Operates standard office and computer equipment.
- May supervise or provide direction to support staff.

Playground SupervisionPart time positions are available ensuring safety and security, and developing social skills among students while they are at play on elementary school playgrounds.

School and Student SupportJobs in this category include working one-on-one with special needs students or working with groups of students in alternative programs and/or Inner City schools.

- Provides assistance, in an elementary or secondary school, with classroom assignments and management, maintaining appropriate behaviour and school related operational activities.
- Assists in organizing and implementing programs and activities in support of students with special needs, behavioural issues and multi-cultural backgrounds.
- Liaises with parents, volunteers, school committees and community agencies.
- Operates a variety of instructional aid equipment.
- May supervise student activities.
- May require up to two (2) years post-secondary education and up to three (3) years related experience.
- Provides counselling and activity planning to assist students requiring developmental, behavioural and/or multicultural support.
- Work includes promoting and interpreting languages and cultures, life skills development, counselling in one-to-one, group or family sessions, assessing behaviour and promoting self-image and providing skills training.
- Facilitates communication between school, home, community agencies and within student groups.
- Documents case notes and maintains files.
- May supervise students in school related activities.
- May require up to four (4) years post-secondary education and up to five (5) years related experience plus proficiency in a different language.

Technical and Resource SupportThis includes a variety of jobs from a number of career paths, each with its own specific requirements for training and experience. Examples include, but are not limited to, stores and receiving, purchasing, library clerk/technician and printing/press operator.
