C3: Climate Change Conference: Enter the Athabasca Tar Sands
Vancouver area students are invited to attend the second climate change conference, this time focusing on the Alberta Tar Sands on Friday, December 10, 2010 at Windermere Secondary.
C3: Enter The Athabasca Tar Sands, will bring together Vancouver-area youth to learn about the Tar Sands and inspire action on environmental and social issues.
This year conference features speakers including Jim Hoggan, a renowned public-relations professional who'll deliver the keynote address. Also presenting are Ben West from the Wilderness Committee, Andrea Macdonald from the No Tankers campaign and the Dogwood Initiative, and Windermere Alumni - Neelam Khare and Peggy Lam.
The conference is held on the anniversary of last year's zero-waste Climate Change Conference that brought together 270 students from over 20 schools from the lower mainland and Vancouver Island.
At the 2009 conference, organizers connected via internet video with the Canadian Youth Delegation in Copenhagen. Speakers included: Andrew Weaver who won a Noble Peace Prize winner in 2007 for his work with the IPCC, Harjap Grewal of the Council of Canadians, and Shannon Daub of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.
