Magee Secondary student Aaron Wong is on a mission. And he needs your help. Wong has been the driving force behind the One Match Stem Cell Campaign aimed at helping people with significant blood disorders to find an appropriate stem cell donor.

His campaign to find more stem cell donors is driven by a close friend who’s in urgent need of stem cells and suffering from blood disorders such as Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma.
"We want people to look past materialistic or monetary donations,” says Wong. “We want students to look deeper within themselves to find what impacts you can have on someone else's life"

Last year, Wong brought the campaign to his home school of Magee and was critical in the growth of awareness around the need for stem cells in the school population. In fact, during his first stem cell registration event at the school, Wong was able to draw in over 100 students. The big interest in the school community helped to increase awareness of the cause and the number of volunteer students who wanted to help. Eventually, 60 students got involved.

Normally the process to get a stem cell transplant takes up to seven years to go through and it’s particularly difficult for men of Asian descent between 17 and 35 to find a donor. That's where Wong hopes he can make a difference.

"People need to think with your heart, not with your head," says Wong when discussing why people should become a donor.
