National Aboriginal Day Celebrated Across Canada
Today, Canadians from all walks of life are invited to participate in the many National Aboriginal Day events that will be taking place from coast to coast. Here in Vancouver, there will be a community-based celebration at Trout Lake Park.
The Vancouver School Board has a large number of aboriginal learners and recently launched the Aboriginal Focus School. The district will be accepting registrations for Kindergarten to Grade 3 now at the school's future location, MacDonald Elementary School at 1950 East Hastings Street, Vancouver. Earlier this week, Macdonald Elementary celebrated its aboriginal heritage with a traditional First Nations pow-wow, where community members were regailed with traditional dancing, food and other activities. If you missed the pow-wow, consider dropping by Trout Lake later today to learn about and celebrate First Nations, Mtis and Inuit peoples as they gather to share their experiences, stories, songs, traditional games, dances and spirit.
