Parent Advisory on the Connecticut Tragedy

We are all saddened by the recent tragedy in Connecticut and it is understandable that there may be some anxiety about this incident. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is always a priority. While the potential for such an incident taking place in our schools is very low, in response to this incident, school staff have reviewed our Emergency Management procedures. Additionally, a strong partnership with the Vancouver Police Department ensures that we work together to keep our schools and communities safe.

Staff have been asked to watch for students' reactions and to offer support if needed. School and district counsellors are also available to consult, as well as the District's Safe & Caring Schools Team. Your child may want to talk about the incident, which is normal, but it is helpful if their exposure to extensive media coverage and graphic details should be limited. If you notice any changes in your child's behavior, please do not hesitate to speak to the school principal.
