Cavell and Tupper Students Team Up to Build Composters
On Wednesday, January 16, 2013, 35 focused and enthusiastic girls and boys from Edith Cavell Elementary's Grade 6 and 7 classes worked with 18 students from the Tupper Tech program to build three wooden composters. School staff say the new composters complement the school's growth plan focus on the environment and sustainability.
Under the watchful eye of Grade 12 Tupper Tech teacher Russ Evans, the Cavell students worked with their Tupper Tech "buddies" in a true mentorship capacity - measuring, nailing, assessing and discussing the job at hand to produce their composters.
"This sustainability project has helped increase the entire school community's environmental learning," says Diane Martinson, Cavell Elementary's principal.
