Construction is currently underway on the Vancouver School Board's newest elementary school. After undertaking a public campaign to solicit ideas for the name of the new school, the Naming Committee recently announced the new school would be named Norma Rose Point School.

Over 56 names were submitted by 193 different individuals. The name "Norma Rose Point" received a great deal of support from a wide-range of people from the community. 

Point has been credited for making significant contributions to First Nations education. She established the first pre-school on a First Nations reservation and was also a "tireless advocate" of Aboriginal education who worked for many years with the VSB, Musqueam and the UBC Community. In December 2012, she was awarded the Diamond Jubilee Medal posthumously for her lifelong contributions to Aboriginal education. 

The new Norma Rose Point School site currently sits on the traditional lands of the Musqueam people.

Once completed, the new school will be the home of 860 Kindergarten to grade 8 students. This new school is slated to open September of 2014. For more information on plans about this school including classroom floor plans, please click here.
