Byng ELL Students Team Up with Musqueam for Harmony in Action

Inspired by the City of Vancouver's Dialogues Project launched two years ago, the VSB SWIS Program: Byng Inclusion Project 3B has been collaborating with the Musqueam Indian Band to host an aboriginal and immigrant engagement project with the theme "Harmony In Action".

Organizers say the aim of the project is to connect the newest residents in this city to the oldest people in this land, promote cross cultural understanding and friendship and harmony amongst aboriginal and immigrant communities and provide newcomers with an opportunity to enhance their civic spirit.

Musqueam ELLOn Friday, May 10 dozens of ELL students from Byng and other VSB secondary schools headed down to the Musqueam Nation reserve where they toured traditional lands guided by Musqueam band members. The tours took the students to visit the local Musqueam history museum, a long house on the reserve as well as the traditional fishing lands of the Aboriginal people. Later that evening, the students participated in a Harmony in Action Aboriginal and Immigrant Engagement Gala.

During the gala, there were live performance, which included Aboriginal
