Organizers are expecting over 50 students, staff, parents and trustees to turnout and march in this year's Pride Parade on Sunday, August 4. During the parade, the marchers will be decked out in rainbow festooned t-shirts and stride alongside a decorated school bus that will be blasting "education" themed music.

"Pride offers us a terrific opportunity to celebrate our district's diversity in a fun and impactful way," said VSB Pride organizer and anti-homophobia coordinator Maria Foster.

The VSB's strong presence at the parade follows a series of successful diversity and anti-homophobia initiatives undertaken by district staff and students in 2013. Earlier in the year, over thousands of elementary (and dozens of secondary) students from across Metro Vancouver coordinated a huge flash mob dance during a Vancouver Giants hockey game.

During this year's Pink Day, many thousands of other students participated in activities aimed at not only quelling bullying in schools but to celebrate the importance of acceptance. Watch a short video highlighting all the different events by clicking here.

This year also saw the honouring of Corey Oskam, a transgendered student and Britannia Hockey Academy goalie, at the Qmunity annual breakfast during International Day Against Homophobia.

To march with the VSB at the Pride Parade, meet at "staging area A" (access on Robson at Bute) between 9:30 and 10:30 on Sunday, August 4th.
