Following the disastrous typhoon that hit the Philippines in November of this year, a variety of Vancouver schools have rallied to support the Filipino people affected.

A few examples include Churchill Secondary and Mount Pleasant Elementary.

At Mount Pleasant, roughly 20 percent of the school's population is from the Philippines. The crisis hit home in the school community prompting them to host a Walk for Water event on November 15. Senior students walked to False Creek and after loading up water filled jugs, marched back to the school. Primary students partially filled their water jugs with coins for donation.

The $1,200 raised by the event went to the Red Cross in support of the Philippines relief fund

Meanwhile at Churchill, students, parents and staff came together on a collaborative effort to raise money through school-wide coin and food drives as well as club donations (spearheaded by the school's Recycling Club). Through these cooperative efforts, Churchill managed to raise $2,500 to donate to the Red Cross.
