Vancouver Learning Network Hosts Talent Night for Online Learners
The Vancouver Learning Network (VLN) recently hosted their first talent show - VLN's Got Talent in the John Oliver Secondary auditorium. Students showcased their amazing and diverse skills to an eager audience of parents, staff, and friends.
The event gave VLN parents and students an opportunity to meet the education community and find out more about how VLN supports their diverse student population. The VLN PAC offered light refreshments and a draw for gift card prizes for VLN performers and VLN student audience participation.
"It was a great evening!" says Suzie Mah, a VLN teacher. "It was a thrill to see our student population, whom we hardly ever see because we are an online school, come together and showcase their talent. The caliber of performances confirmed to me as a teacher, why our program works for students who need the flexibility and accessibility to our courses so they can pursue their hopes and dreams of becoming performing artists and athletes."
The VLN is a distributed learning program operating within the Vancouver school district. Distributed learning programs enable students who wish to learn at home or who need more flexibility in their schooling schedule to complete course work online.
"VLN's Got Talent was a great success," says Pedro Dasilva, principal of VLN. "And was the inspiration of a group of dedicated teachers (Suzie Mah, Jackie Mattu, Carmen Cheung, and Stella Horng) who wanted to create an evening for our students to share their talents. Thanks goes out to all staff, the PAC, and especially our students for a memorable evening."
