Over 120 impressive project boards, 200 Vancouver School District students and dozens of proud parents and teachers packed Langara's gym during the Vancouver District Science Fair last month.

The VDSF is a district-wide event where students from all corners of Vancouver can come and share their projects. Eighty-five projects presented at the VDSF were selected to represent Vancouver at the Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair (GVRSF) in April at UBC.

Churchill Secondary and Science Fair organizer Jeanne Yu said the fair is important because it gives students a chance to practice the scientific method.

"Here they get to present on a topic of their own interest," says Yu. "This allows them to network and also meet professors from UBC and Langara."

Students worked countless hours designing and conducting experiments on a vast array of topics. Through this process they developed a better understanding of the scientific method and became more scientifically literate.

The event also provided students with an opportunity to meet peers from throughout Vancouver with similar interests and share their experiences.
