This year Eric Hamber's Rosalie Teed didn't just earn a dogwood diploma, she also was awarded a Loran Scholarship worth up to $80,000. The scholarship gives Teed an option to attend her choice of 25 universities in Canada.

Teed won because of her longtime service and commitment to the school community. In addition to being the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper (which she co-founded) and the yearbook, she also played violin in the school orchestra, served as president of the student senate and spent her spare time baking homemade treats for a local charity with the baking club she helped found.

The Loran scholarship is one of the largest and most "unconventional undergraduate merit scholarships in the country." Each year it is awarded to 30 graduating secondary or CEGEP students on the basis of character, service and leadership potential.
