Books Blankets and Bears at Garibaldi Annex
Books Blankets and Bears at Garibaldi Annex is a day to celebrate reading, and get cozy with books and good company.
This year, students at Garibaldi enjoyed an author visit and book talk, and several fun activities including a craft and poetry workshop. The Garibaldi PAC also organized a buffet-style lunch for a 'Teddy Bear Picnic'.
Noah Johnson, a former Garibaldi student was the surprise guest author this year. Johnson self-published his first book, "Trouble with Serpents" by the time he was in Grade 2. Now in Grade 3 at Bayview Elementary, Johnson is well on his way to finishing his next book, a sequel to Serpents titled "Rise of the Sea Dragon".
"Trouble with Serpents" and Johnson were a hit with the other students, who were suitably impressed with his accomplishments. Johnson admitted he was a bit nervous to come back to Garibaldi and read to the students, but was happy to answer questions about his process and where he gets his ideas.
"I like sea creatures," he says, wearing a cool octopus t-shirt. "So that's what I write about."
Garibaldi is a Kindergarten to Grade 4 annex in the Templeton Secondary family of schools.
