Windermere Siblings Both Heading to Taekwondo World Championship
Windermere Secondary Grade 12 student Dana Andaya and Grade 11 student Manuel Andaya are siblings. They're also world-class taekwondo competitors.
Both Andayas are planning to head to Italy in late May to compete in the Taekwondo World Championship. They will be among the only black belt competitors from BC. They won the birth after finishing in the top tier at Canada's national competition held in Regina last October.
The brother and sister come from a family passionate about martial arts. Their father, who brought his passion for taekwondo with him from the Philippines when he emigrated to Canada, holds a black belt - fourth degree. He's been coaching his kids since they were seven years old.
Both Andayas train two to three times per week and they say as the tournament draws closer, they're becoming increasingly nervous.
