Churchill Student Earns Radio License
Justin Lu, a Grade 11 Churchill Secondary student, recently completed a rigorous exam on the theory and practice of radio. He is the first Churchill student in at least four decades to receive a license, and is now licensed to transmit on several amateur radio bands.
In civil emergencies, such as a severe earthquake, Lu's Ham radio skills will be critical. Cellphone networks will likely fail and Ham radio operators will looked towards to provide vital emergency communications. Lu is an important asset to Churchill Secondary, the Vancouver School District, and VECTOR (Vancouver Emergency Radio Telecommunications Organization).
The Churchill Amateur Radio Club is hoping to acquire two amateur radio transceivers, to practice their skills. For more information about amateur radio, please visit www.swcelectronics.com/radio.php.
