Shaughnessy Elementary Art Installation Honours Fallen Soldiers

Students from Shaughnessy Elementary School created a unique art installation to be presented to the city, which honours fallen soldiers.

The project, which up-cycles old pop bottles into red poppies, was an opportunity for Shaughnessy teacher Carla Pace to engage her Grade 5 students not only creatively, but also give them a deeper connection to the history of Remembrance Day.

"It is very meaningful and gives them an opportunity to create something very real," says Janet Souther, Principal at Shaughnessy. "And it allows the students the sense of meaningful contribution within the act of remembrance.

The work is now on display on the lawn at City Hall.
