David Lloyd George Elementary School Newsletter
Week of April 28 – May 2, 2025
Dear DLG Families,
We hope this message finds you well as we head into the final days of April. Here are some important updates and messages for the coming week:
🪶 No School Monday – Indigenous Focus Day
Please remember that there will be no school on Monday, April 28. This is the district's annual Indigenous Focus Day. Our staff will join other educators from across the city at Churchill to attend workshops and a keynote presentation focused on teaching children about our shared Indigenous history and culture. We’re proud to be part of this important learning journey.
📚 Thank You for a Great Round of Conferences
A heartfelt thank you to all parents and students for participating in student conferences. These evenings are a celebration of each child's growth and achievements. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to connect and reflect on their learning journey.
☀️ Spring Safety Reminder
With the return of better weather, more children are playing outside before and after school. Please take extra care during your commutes.
- Drivers and cyclists: Watch for children, toys, and balls that may appear suddenly.
- Pedestrians: Stay alert around vehicles.
- A little less speed and putting your phone away can make a big difference in keeping everyone safe.
🚫 Parking Reminder
We kindly remind all families not to park or stop in the staff parking lots. These spaces must remain clear for our staff to access them throughout the day. Delays impact the support and services available to students. Please respect our community and stay well outside these areas.
🗳️ Federal Election – DLG as a Polling Station
This Monday, April 28, David Lloyd George will serve once again as a federal election polling station. A special thank you to our building engineer, Mr. Padam, who will ensure everything runs smoothly so our community can safely cast their votes.
💻 Wize Computing Club – After-School Coding Program
DLG will be the site of an after-school coding and computing program. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
🎟️ PAC Fundraiser: Funbox Early Bird Tickets
Our PAC is launching a new fundraiser through Funbox, the world’s largest bounce park, located in Coquitlam!
- Early bird tickets go on sale May 1.
- If we sell at least $1,000 worth (about 33–34 tickets at $30 each), the DLG PAC receives 25% of all sales.
- Use the code FB25DLG when purchasing.
- Please share this code with friends, family, and colleagues—the more who use it, the better for our school!
- Please see attached flyer
💙 A Warm Welcome Back
On a personal note, I want to express my heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome I received upon my return—especially from our amazing students. Their empathy, kindness, and genuine interest touched me deeply and reminded me of the wonderful community we have here at DLG.
A special thank you to Ms. Worthington, who led the school with care and professionalism in my absence. Her leadership has been appreciated by both staff and students alike.
Wishing you all a safe and restful weekend.
Warm regards,
Jonathan Weresch
