“They Want Me to Succeed” Celebrating Impact on Support Staff Appreciation Day

Support staff appreciation day

Today, VSB proudly celebrates Support Staff Appreciation Day – a time to recognize all the dedicated individuals who keep schools running and help students thrive.

From building engineers and tradespeople who maintain safe, welcoming facilities, to supervision aides who ensure student safety, support staff are a pillar of our education system. They move entire schools during seismic upgrades, serve nutritious meals with a smile and provide vital care to learners with diverse needs. Their work is often behind the scenes, but their impact is front and center in the lives of students.

In honour of support staff’s lasting impact, the Support Staff Recognition Scholarship was created. Each year, two scholarships of $2,500 are awarded to graduating students to support their post-secondary journey. As part of the application process, students share how a support staff member at their school made a positive impact on their lives and helped shape the person they are today.

“It is clear to me that [the support staff at my school] care about my education and want me to succeed. I have grown so much both academically and personally because of the support I was given.”

Reflections such as this one provide a glimpse into the meaningful, lifelong impacts support staff have on student success.

To all support staff, thank you for your unwavering commitment. Your work makes all the difference.
