Library Program Goal

Brock’s Library Learning Commons fosters confident lifelong learners who are enthusiastic readers, skillful inquirers and critical thinkers. Brock Library is a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative learning space that cultivates responsible and ethical users of ideas and information.

Hours

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays only. Closed Mondays and Fridays.

Before school: 8:45am until school begins. Students in all grades welcome. Families welcome.

During school: Open Book exchanges for all grades 9:00-9:30 T, W, Th. During scheduled class book exchanges.

After school: End of school until 3:15pm. Students in all grades welcome. Families welcome.

Some intermediate teachers choose not to bring the whole class every week, if most students seem to have reading materials already and will send only students who need new books during any of the open book exchanges on Tues, Wed, or Thursday mornings.

Borrowing Policies

Maximum Book Checkouts
  • Kindergarten - 1 book
  • Primary - 5 books
  • Intermediate - 5+ books
Loan period
  • Picture books, Readers, Early Chapterbooks, Graphics, Primary Information books: 1 week
  • Long chapter book fiction and intermediate nonfiction: 3 weeks

Students may renew the book unless someone is waiting for it. Students are asked to return the books earlier if they are done with them so more students can enjoy them.

Fees
  • No overdue/late fines
  • If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, the cost of replacing the book will be charged.
  • As with all school fees, if paying for lost or damaged books is a financial difficulty, please let us know.

Collaborative Teaching

At Brock, Ms. Doran, the teacher-librarian, collaborates with classroom teachers and resource teachers to enrich student learning.
