Denise

We will miss you Ms. Meyer!

Dear Graham Bruce Families,

The sunny, yet cold days have been a bonus at our school, providing energy and making outdoor activities more enjoyable. As always, please ensure our students come to school dressed appropriately for the weather.

Denise Meyer Is Retiring!

Denise joined the Vancouver School Board in September 1999, as a temporary employee hired to fill in where needed. After 3 months of subbing, she was moved to a permanent position in the Purchasing Department working at the furniture and equipment desk. After 2 years with Purchasing, Denise moved to David Thompson Secondary School as the Records Clerk, a position that she absolutely loved, unfortunately it was not to last, and she was back to subbing at the end of August 2004.

September 2004 saw another new school as Denise accepted the position of Office Administrative Assistant at John Norquay Elementary School! Denise was at Norquay until June 2012, when she then took the position of Office Administrative Assistant at Graham Bruce Elementary School. Denise has been at Graham Bruce Elementary since September 2012 until now.

When she started at Graham Bruce there were only 9 divisions, and one of those was a social development class. She has seen the school grow from 171 students to a whopping 280 and increase by 4 divisions. Denise has fond memories of the school's Corn & Dog nights, being in the dunk tank for the “PAC Carnival” and being the RCMP’s Mascot “Safety Bear”, shopping at the “Bears Den” and bringing the “Breakfast Club” to life at Bruce, along with many, many others.

Lifelong friends have been made at Graham Bruce Elementary and after 13 years at Bruce and 26 years with the Vancouver School Board its time for a new adventure! "Thank you, Bruce students, parents, and staff, for an amazing 13 years you will all be sadly missed! Bruce truly is a 'Community School'!"

Lion's Dance @Bruce!

Happy Lunar New Year! Today, we had a Lion's Dance (by VanCity Lion's Dance Group) in our gym to welcome and celebrate the Lunar New Year, which is observed by many families locally and around the world! The 2025 Lunar New Year will begin on January 29 and end with the Lantern Festival on February 12. This year, the Chinese zodiac animal is the Snake!
