Library / Learning Commons

Hello! and welcome to our Learning Commons!

Hours of operation: 8:30- 3:30 daily (but we will be closed from 11:30-12:00 to eat our lunch).

We are constantly adding new books but if there's something you want that we don't have, please come in and request it. We will try to accommodate all reasonable requests. You have your book(s) for 2 weeks but, if you would like to extend your due date, you may renew them either by coming in asking us or logging into the website at the top right of the page (using your Microsoft username/password). Like everywhere else at Kitsilano cell phones stowed away during instructional time (during all periods including FIT).

We are also open for people with Study Periods, we just request that you sign in up at the front. We even have helpful tips for your studying:

Here are some fundamental tips to get you where you want to be.

    • Get sleep (8+ hours), drink water and eat healthy (healthily?). You will not function if you do not look after your mind and body. You're not working "smart" if you're burning the candle at both ends.

    • Get rid of your cell phone, Snap, Insta, video games... etc. Find a place you can study that is free of distractions or where you will try to minimize a screen you're procrastinating on.

    • If you can teach it you know it. Shoot for understanding. Serioulsy, if you can teach it - you really do know it.

    • Do your homework. Sometimes you will have to struggle. It's normal. You're normal. Life is hard sometimes. We all have to battle it out. The one's you cannot answer, after giving 2-3 hard shots at it, make sure you get resolution the next day in class! AND YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!

    • Review your notes and the examples given each day, and especially before you start your homework. You'll be more effective and efficient that way.

    • Enjoy your learning and believe in yourself.  There is no reward without effort. Seriously - really enjoy it. Learning is cool.

    • Plan your life (job, volunteer, sports, arts, hobbies and family vacations) so they don't get so much in the way of school that your grades suffer (assuming that's a bad thing). Plan ahead!

In order to access our catalogue and databases yourself, look to the menu on the left. For most of the resources, the user name is: 39ko and the password is: library

Ms. Valverde created a handy guide to help you find them: https://media.vsb.bc.ca/media/Default/fgg/55/Library20databases20access20guide-1.pdf

Here are some links to citation information and generators.

We are always looking for volunteers in the library. If you need volunteer hours, please come by to discuss what it entails and to sign up.

See you soon,
