The Vancouver School Board (VSB) approved a financial plan for 2024-2025 school year that advances student learning and well-being. The budget bylaw provides spending of nearly $785 million next school year. 

The Board’s 2024-2025 financial plan provides: 

• Additional staffing to support students with key literacy, numeracy as well as critical and creative thinking skills 
• More support for arts education focusing on the ­­fine arts, drama, dance and music 
• Funding to expand student access to technology/devices 
• Support dedicated to digital literacy and students’ safety online. 

The 2024-2025 financial plan also includes supports for improvements through process simplification, digital infrastructure upgrades, staff training and user-centric service delivery, and to advance the District’s recruitment and retention initiatives. 

The 2024-2025 financial plan was guided by the Education Plan and priorities outlined in VSB’s Framework for Enchanting Student Learning report as well as information gathered through a comprehensive engagement process. The Board heard from the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation), District leaders and the District’s formal stakeholder groups, as well as from students, their families, staff and the broader public about their priorities for investments in student learning.

The Board is required to pass a balanced budget annually in accordance with the School Act.
