Spirit Relays at Hamber Secondary

Students at the gym ready for some fun

On June 12, more than 100 students from Britannia Learning Assistance/Life Skills (LA/LS), Eric Hamber Learning Assistance Class (LAC), Eric Hamber LA/LS, Killarney LAC, Killarney LA/LS, and Vancouver Technical LAC participated in the Hamber Spirit Relay event. Hamber students were enthusiastic to facilitate activities such as carnival relays, creating puzzle piece mural, and organizing a teacher-verus -student handball game.

Arabella Mew and Mackenzie Chung, co-founder of the Hamber Spirit Relays, were glad that participants had positive things to say on their feedback.

“It’s a blast!! I can’t wait for next year’s spirit relay!”

“I think my favourite part of this event was monkey-in-the-middle and pizza. I think we should do something like this again.”

“It was really fun! Thank you so much.”

During the art mural, students were asked to draw what they loved. A student drew themselves at the Hamber Spirit Relays!

We asked, students Arabella and Mackenzie for some final thoughts.

“This initiative would not have been possible without the help of Hamber’s Grade 11 PE leadership classes. They welcomed program students, facilitated activities and provided encouragement throughout the day. We would also like to thank Mr. Sehmbi, Mr. Overgaard and Mr. Millette, PE department teachers at Eric Hamber, and Mr. Tso, the school’s learning services department head, for the work they put in and mentoring us along the way. Finally, we appreciate all the teachers, support staff and students who took the time to attend and made the event very memorable and meaningful for both of us.”

Thank you, Arabella and Mackenzie for creating such a memorable event for VSB students!
