Welcome to Edith Cavell Library Learning Commons

May 2023                  We Are Home!

We are back on our Edith Cavell site and in our building after seismic mitigation.

It has been a whirlwind of preparing our library learning commons for the May 8th move in date!

We have been so very fortunate to have the expert help of retired Teacher Librarian ( Wolfe Elem.), Wendy Cameron, who helped design the shelving and displays as well as getting the whole collection back onto the shelves for opening day. Huge thanks also go to Ms. Linda Tornroos of Maple Grove Elem. who came after school to help with organizing the books here at our Cavell site.

We also could not have done this without  the incredible VSB carpentry team and the VSB material services team. The carpenters delivered our vision of the library and got the shelves up in less than a week! The material services team moved all our books back and got us new furniture that the students will love. Thanks to the DREAM TEAMs who worked so hard on the library, our beloved books now live in a beautiful and functional space!

Destiny Online Library System:
Students may access our Vancouver School Board Online Library System by going to Destiny.

Destiny enables student to find books in our school library.  When they log in using their student numbers they can look up their own personal account for details about what books have been signed out and when they are due. Students and parents/guardians can also access Destiny from their home computers.

The Library Learning Commons Programme
The aim of the LLC programme at Cavell is to help students to become life long readers, life long learners and critical thinkers. Through project based learning, students develop a variety of skills which they will apply to all areas of our newly designed curriculum. Of course, another important goal is to foster the love of reading in all of our students by offering choice and providing a variety of reading materials.
