Applications are now closed. Thank you to all who applied.

In May 2023, the Board approved a new student leadership fund to dedicate $100,000 in the 2023/2024 budget to enhance student leadership opportunities. The purpose of the fund is to generate initiatives, projects or campaigns for students, by students.

Since the Board’s approval, the Vancouver District Students’ Council (VDSC) has worked closely with District staff   to develop guidelines and criteria for the fund application. Based on the ideas of students, the criteria is guided by the District’s Education Plan and oriented towards community-building, student leadership, and student connection.

In terms of eligibility, any K-12 student in the VSB can apply; that’s nearly 50,000 students in 89 elementary schools, 18 secondary school sites in addition to alternate program sites. Funding is available up to $2,000 for projects led by secondary school students, $1,000 for those led by elementary school students, and up to $4,000 for projects that include cross-district student leadership. Projects should embody the principles of student-led initiatives, teamwork, and contribute to the connection of the school community. Eligible projects may encompass a variety of areas such as student engagement events, volunteer initiatives, fundraising, and more. Visit website for more details.

Funded projects will have the opportunity to present at the student leadership project showcase in June 2024, which aims to connect student leaders and showcase their initiatives across the District.
