There is a buzz of excitement in the air at Nootka Elementary School as the doors open to the school’s auditorium. During the last week of May, families and friends were invited to enjoy the school’s exciting Broadway production of Matilda Jr. 

Matilda Jr. is a Broadway musical about a child overcoming obstacles to find her power and voice in a world that isn’t always kind to her.

“Students at Nootka Elementary have been rehearsing since January”, says Katie Muzyka, grade 6/7 fine arts teacher. 

She emphasized the tremendous teamwork involved, sharing that “every aspect of the production has been student driven and we really appreciate all their effort and time”

Nootka’s principal, Jesse Bemister, also applauded the efforts of all involved. 

“This show wouldn’t have been possible without the backstage crew who designed and managed the sound, lighting and stage,” Bemister says.
