English Language Learners

English Language Learners at the VSB are served by teachers and support staff dedicated to supporting the students’ success and inclusion in school and society. Dedicated English language instruction will occur both within and outside of students’ subject area classrooms. Students receive English language support appropriate to their level of need.
ELL instruction at schools in overseen by the school principal, with guidance provided by the District Principal and ELL District Resource Teacher. The policies guiding ELL instruction and assessment are informed by the Ministry of Education ELL Standards.
In addition to their ELL teachers, English language learners in the VSB are supported by two teams of support workers, the Multicultural Liaison Workers who help students and families navigate the school system, and the Settlement Workers in Schools who help with settlement needs.
