Dear Tupper Community,
We hope you had a safe, restful, and memorable summer! As we look towards the 2023-2024 school year, we would like to share some important information regarding the upcoming school start up. We will be offering orientation for parents and students to facilitate a positive transition to Tupper. Please note, both orientations are optional, and all material will be re-enforced during the first week of school for those students who cannot attend.
Grade 8 Families:
Parent Orientation – (optional)
On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, Tupper Secondary will be hosting a parent orientation for our grade 8 parents. If you would like to attend this in person event, please click the link below and kindly complete the registration form.

Location: Tupper auditorium
Time: 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM
The parent orientation will be held in the auditorium, and we will cover important information such as:
1. communication,
2. our community,
3. grade 8 program, and
4. available supports for students.
Your child(ren) may attend this event with you if they would like. Please register and come with questions.

Grade 8 Orientation GRADE 8 OPENING DAY PROCEDURES:
The staff and students of Tupper Secondary invite the Class of 2028 to our annual
LINK CREW GRADE 8 ORIENTATION (for students only)
Date: Wednesday, August 30, 2023
Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: Small Gym
The Link Crew Leaders will meet the grade 8s in the small gym (entrance off 24th and St. George Street). The purpose of this orientation is to make the transition from elementary school to high school a positive experience. Each grade 8 will be paired with a leader to mentor them. The event will involve group activities designed to address students’ needs and concerns in an enjoyable manner. Students should bring water and may also bring a snack. Material covered during this orientation will also be covered during the first week of school.
Grade 8 students will have their homeroom on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM. Homeroom procedures will continue till September 7th. If you will be returning late to school, please see below for the Notice of Late return form (please see below). Please download the Notice of Late Return form, fill out the form, and send it back to the school as soon as possible to tupper@vsb.bc.ca or in person.
Wednesday, September 6, 2023, will be a full day of classes starting at 8:40 AM. Please bring lunch. The Flexible Instructional Time (FIT) schedule will begin Friday, September 8, 2023. It is crucial to be on time for your classes and we welcome students to get to school early.
Grade 8 Camp
We are really looking forward to hosting grade 8 students to our Grade 8 Camp on September 21, 2023 at Hillcrest Community Centre and Tupper Secondary. We will send out detailed information about this special event in a separate email during the week of August 28 – Sept. 1, 2023. Please note that this event will take a different format from previous years and will involve one overnight sleepover at Tupper and students will finish the morning of September 22, 2023.
Grade 9-12 Families:
Homeroom: Tuesday, September 5, 2023 @ 1:00 PM – 1:45 PM
Homeroom lists are available in the foyer if you are not sure where your homeroom class is – please be sure to arrive a few minutes early if you need assistance. Homeroom procedures will continue through the week till September 7th.
Counsellors:
Counsellors are available to students for course changes due to summer school completion or other inquiries. Please email your counsellor to make an appointment during the week of August 28th, 2023.

Notice of Late Return:
If your child will return to school after September 5th, please complete the following form no LATER THAN noon on Friday, September 8th, 2023. Please note: If the school cannot verify your child's attendance at school by noon on Friday, September 8th, 2023, your child's space will be given to another student on the school's waitlist.

School Fees:
School fees can be paid online on our website using the icon on the top that reads “Pay Fees” or you can click here. For the school fee schedule for the 2023/2024 school year, please click here. The Board of Education Trustees is committed to ensuring that no school-age student will be denied an opportunity to participate in a course, class, or program because of an inability to pay fees. Parents and guardians unable to pay some or all of the school fee are invited to speak to their child's teacher, school counsellor, and/or the school Principal.
Student Forms:
Please visit https://myforms.vsb.bc.ca/Login to complete important student forms. You will need your student’s PEN (Personal Education Number which is 9 digits long) to log in and complete the form. Your child(ren)’s PEN can be found on their previous years’ report cards. One form will be given to all students – the Student Reunification Authorization Form – which is critical for our Emergency Preparedness Procedures. Student Verification Forms
During the week of September 5th, you will receive an email with a student verification form. Please be sure to review and verify your contact information, emergency contact information and any medical alerts that may be missing from the form. If there are changes to be made, please print the document, update the information as required, and either email the updated form to tupper@vsb.bc.ca or send it back to school with your student to return to their homeroom teacher during the first week of school.
