The John Oliver Community Schools Team is currently comprised of a Community Schools Coordinator and a Youth and Family Worker. The team’s office is located at John Oliver Secondary in room 202.

Our Family of Schools include:

· John Oliver Secondary

· Henderson Elementary

· Mackenzie Elementary

· Moberly Elementary

· Trudeau Elementary

Community School Teams are an initiative of the Vancouver School district to provide evidence-based programming, which supports asset development of children and youth enrolled in Vancouver schools.

Programs are developed in partnership with school and community stakeholders and are intended to support students to:

· Increase academic success

· Increase social-emotional functioning

· Increase community and school connectedness

· Increase attendance

Types of programs include, but are not limited to sports, literacy, arts and culture, food and nutrition, social emotional skills, environmental stewardship, global citizenship and leadership development.

Many programs are low cost, engaging, high quality, low barrier, inclusive, support social and emotional learning, and often include a ‘tri-mentorship’ structure with high school students and/or community members participating as volunteers.

Our goal is to strengthen existing partnerships and to seek out new collaborative opportunities that will improve the health of our community and opportunities for children, youth and families to learn, grow, recreate, celebrate and relate to one another.

John Oliver students are welcome to visit our room to learn about volunteer, leadership, and engaging program opportunities in the school and community, ask about Jumpstart Funding, get a snack, check in with a caring adult, or just say hello. Please follow current COVID-19 protocols to ensure health and safety for all.
