Season’s greetings from VSB!

Grade 1 students art from Fleming Elementary

As we approach the winter holiday break, I’d like to take this opportunity to celebrate the many ways our school communities have come together throughout 2025. The care, creativity and resilience shown by students, families and staff is what makes our VSB community an amazing place for students to learn and grow.

Highlights from the fall

Early literacy: This fall, we introduced universal kindergarten literacy screening to help every child build strong reading skills from the start.

Inclusive learning: More than 600 educators and staff attended Inclusion in Action, a full day of learning focused on fostering welcoming and equitable classrooms.

Healthy partnerships: Our partnership with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank has delivered hundreds of kilos of healthy food and fruit to students.

Student voice: District-wide, students gathered for forums about social media and debated the future of artificial intelligence.

Career pathways: Career Programs hosted events to help learners explore trades and graduation pathways.

Giving back: Through our VSB Gives Back campaign, staff are coming together to support the Vancouver Firefighters Charity’s Snacks for Kids program, building on last year’s success raising more than $30,000 for Backpack Buddies.

Listening and sharing: I am especially proud of our community building efforts with families, including VSB Voices, our parent and guardian listening post, and our podcast, VSB After the Bell, which features in-studio as well as live episodes, where audience members can ask questions on topics that matter most.

Wishing you a joyful break

Thank you for your partnership and support. On behalf of everyone at VSB, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful and restful winter holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the new year, ready for new opportunities and continued growth together.

Warmest wishes,
 Helen McGregor
