Cross Boundary Applications

🚸 New to VSB? Applying Cross-Boundary? Read This First

If your family is new to the Vancouver School Board (VSB) and you’d like to apply to a school outside your catchment:

👉 Step 1:
You must first apply online to your catchment school. We cannot accept a cross-boundary application until this step is complete.

📌 Important:
Families must complete the full registration process at their catchment school — this includes submitting the online form and bringing all required documents to the school.

Cross-boundary applications are not guaranteed, and students must be fully registered at their catchment school to ensure a spot in the VSB.
If you skip this step and your cross-boundary request is not accepted, your child may be placed on a waitlist for the following school year.

Prince of Wales will receive the list of applicants in early March, sorted in the order we are permitted to offer placements.

🔁 Cross-Boundary Applications for Current VSB Students (Regular Window)

  • Applications open: First school day in February

  • Deadline: Last school day in February

Prince of Wales will receive the list of applicants in early March, sorted by the order we are allowed to offer placements.

📅 Please do not contact us before March 30 about your application status. We aim to notify all accepted and waitlisted families by March 30.

🥇 Priority for Cross-Boundary Placement Is Given In This Order:

  1. Students with a sibling currently attending PW who will still be enrolled next school year

  2. All other applicants living within the City of Vancouver

  3. Applicants living outside of Vancouver

⏳ Waitlist Info

  • The cross-boundary waitlist stays active until September 30 of the new school year. For fairness, we do not share placement details on the waitlist. If a space becomes available, we’ll contact families in order. Once contacted, families have 48 hours to accept or decline the offer.

🕒 Late Cross-Boundary Applications

  • Open: March 1

  • Close: Second Friday in June

  • Note: Late applications are not online

To apply late:

  1. Email apooley@vsb.bc.ca to request a Late Cross-Boundary Application Form

  2. Return the completed form via email or in person at the PW Office (Forms will be date and time-stamped)

⚠️ Late applications will only be reviewed if:

  • All regular waitlisted applicants have been placed or declined

  • Space is still available

💡 Tip: Apply during the regular February window to improve your chances of being accepted.
