Fine Arts
Dance
There are dance classes for all grades at Gladstone. Beginner students are taught fundamental dance techniques in many dance forms including hip hop, breaking, tap, jazz, contemporary and salsa dance. Students with previous dance experience to deepen their understanding of dance technique in the areas of contemporary, jazz, ballet and latin styles of dance. All dance students participate in the semester-end dance show, with performances for local elementary school classes and an evening performance for the public.
Drama
The Drama program focuses on building trust, teamwork and cooperation, improving communication, boosting concentration, and enhancing cultural awareness. Each year the students will have the opportunity to attend field trips to local theatres, listen to guest speakers, and participate in workshops led by local professionals. This will strengthen the collaboration between Gladstone students and the professional arts community. Students are also introduced to the technical aspects of theatre, which include sound, lighting, props, costume, hair & makeup, and set design.
Music
The Gladstone Music Program offers three main disciplines, and all areas are open for all students of any level of music experience, including beginners. 1)The band program is for students who are interested in learning how to play traditional brass and woodwind instruments. 2) The choir is open to students who are interested in developing their voice as an instrument and singing in all styles. 3) There is also a guitar/ukulele course for students interested in learning those instruments. All classes focus on basic instrumental technique, musicianship, and work towards winter and spring concert performances.
Visual Arts
Gladstone Visual Arts offers a fun opportunity for Grades 8-12 to express their creative personalities in a classroom that is inclusive, supportive, and gives you many exciting learning opportunities to begin your creative experience or by adding on to your previous experience. We meet you where you are with learning the fundamentals of Art & Design Principles, Elements, and compositional strategies, while building academic skill and opportunities for individual expression. Students will be encouraged to challenge themselves to take creative risks while learning an array art making techniques for 2D ART drawing, painting, multimedia and in 3D ART building Sculptural form with a variety of learning the mediums especially clay where students will start with hand building units and the opportunity to use the wheel for throwing clay.
