Intensive French: Gr 6-7

The Vancouver School Board's Intensive French program is open to students entering grade 6. The students in this program receive about 80% of their instruction in French during the first half of the year (September to January), and 20% in French during the second half (February to June). 

The rest of the grade 6 curriculum (science, social studies, English language arts etc.) is compressed into the second half of the year and taught in English, with the exception of mathematics, which is taught in English throughout the whole year. 

This compressed method is possible because much of the grade 6 curriculum can be effectively taught in French, allowing students to meet all their learning outcomes while developing a solid foundation in the French language. 

At the end of grade 6, students will continue with their French language learning with 60-minutes of French instruction per day in grade 7.
