The Vancouver School Board (VSB) works with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) to support safe, welcoming and inclusive school communities through the School Liaison Officer (SLO) program.

The role of school liaison officers is focused on relationship building, education and early intervention. Officers are not involved in school discipline and do not replace the role of school based staff.

The SLO program has evolved over time. Revisions to the program began in 2023 to better align with student well being, equity and community expectations.

In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding, the VSB and VPD engaged an independent third party to conduct a review of the SLO Program, focused on understanding the impact of program changes on students and staff, as well as identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement.
