Intensive French: Gr 6-7
The intensive French program is open to students entering Grade 6. The program helps students build confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing in French.
Intensive French focuses on learning the French language through topics and activities that connect to students' lives and interests. These activities also support many Grade 6 learning outcomes.
From September to January, about 80 per cent of instruction is in French. Students build their French language skills through classroom activities and projects. Mathematics is taught in English throughout the year.
From February to June, about 20 per cent of instruction is in French. The remainder of the Grade 6 curriculum, including Science, Social Studies and English Language Arts, is taught in English.
Students meet all Grade 6 learning outcomes while developing strong French language skills. In Grade 7, they continue learning French for about 60 minutes each day, or 20 per cent of the school day.
