Community Use of VSB Elementary Gyms
Our school gymnasiums across Vancouver's neighborhoods provide practical, as-is spaces for community sports and recreational activities. Many of our newer, seismically upgraded or recently built schools feature modern gyms with quality flooring and lighting for an improved play experience.
Renting our facilities gives you convenient access to neighborhood spaces while supporting local education, as a portion of every rental directly benefits school programs. Whether you're planning a casual game or organizing a league, we have options to suit different needs and budgets, all conveniently located throughout the city.

Review Policy and Procedures
Administrative Policies Overview
- VSB supports community use as long as it does not interfere with K–12 programming.
- Rentals are governed by VSB’s Administrative Procedures Manual.
- All renters must comply with VSB’s Rules and Regulations, including insurance, access times, and facility conditions of use.
Client Types
Rental fees are based on your account category. Non-profit groups may qualify for discounted rates if your organization is recognized as a non-profit under the Societies Act.

Booking Priority
The VSB makes available public access to VSB facilities provided it does not interfere with school programs or VSB initiatives.
In order of priority, use is as follows:
- School Use (curricular and extra-curricular activities)
- VSB Programs, services, initiatives
- City of Vancouver and Parks Board agreements
- Community Use

We offer two evening time slots to suit your schedule:

Facility Rental Fees
The rental rates for all school facilities and grounds are established by the District and reviewed annually. The calculation of these rates will include full cost recovery of long- and short-term capital and all operating costs.
Rental rates for elementary school gymnasiums are determined by Account Category, Gym Category and Timeslots. A Standard gym category refers to our older facilities, while a Premium gym is a newer or newly renovated that comes slightly higher cost.

Booking Fees
- A non-refundable $25 booking fee for all "firmed" rentals
- An additional non-refundable $25 booking fee also applies for any changes made to bookings after the rental contract has been "firmed."
- Above fees are subject to GST

Parking
Street parking is available at most of our school locations.
Please note that some school parking lots are managed by Impark, and metered parking is enforced from 5:00 PM to 7:00 AM on weekdays and throughout weekends. For details on rates and regulations, visit the Impark website.
Parking on school grounds is subject to Administrative Procedure (AP) 543
Insurance Requirements
All groups using district facilities or fields must provide proof of comprehensive general liability insurance with a limit of not less than $5 million, inclusive per occurrence, for bodily injury and property damage, including loss of use thereof, upon approval of your request.
The insurance certificate must name The Board of Education of School District No. 39 (Vancouver), 1580 W. Broadway Vancouver BC V6J 5K8 as the additional insured.
If you do not currently have coverage, you may be able to purchase insurance through your local insurance provider or at eventpolicy.ca
Start Your Booking
- Create an Account: If you are a new client, register on the Client Online Portal page.
- Complete the E-Form: Indoor Sports Elementary Gymnasium Booking Application. Provide all required details for your booking request.
- Wait for Confirmation: Facility Rentals Services will contact you by email within 10 business days regarding your application status.
- Pay Your invoice Online: Upon confirmation, complete payment through the portal.
- Sign Your Facility Agreement: Finalize your bookings by signing the agreement electronically.
