International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme is an inclusive model of learning that focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both at school and beyond.
All students at Southlands Elementary School are part of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), which is an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary programme that is designed to foster the development of the whole child. PYP schools aim to develop students’ academic, social and emotional wellbeing, focusing on international-mindedness and strong personal values. PYP schools nurture independent learning skills, encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning.
The PYP uses structured, concept-based inquiry as the main vehicle for learning and incorporates local and global issues into the BC Ministry of Education Curriculum. There are no external IB examinations in the PYP.
