Gourmet Cooking Meets Speed Dating at the VSB

What do you get when you combine singles looking to meet their match and gourmet cooking? Speed Dating Cooking Class at the Vancouver School Board. The course is a brand new night school class hosted by VSB Continuing Education and it kicks off April 18 for three weeks.

Chef Helena Kopelow says she's excited about what the new class may bring.

"It's going to be fun, informative and quick paced," she says. "I'm going into this with a positive attitude, great recipes and am hoping for the best."

During the class, men and women will be divided into groups. Each menu course will introduce the class to a new recipe and a new partner. Kopelow says students should expect a phenomenal menu which will feature Fennel & Apple Salad with Creamy Mustard Dressing, Saffron & Pea Risotto, Orange Pudding Cakes for two, Phyllo Pastry filled with Brie & Raspberry Sauce, Fish Taco with all the fixings including homemade Salsa & Guacamole and Creamy Polenta with Brown Sugar, Raisins & Butter among many other recipes.

Kopelow says the while she expects the recipes to be a draw, this won't be just any food course. Modelled around other successful speed dating events, the chef expects the course to be of particular interest to young professionals who love food, are single, but don't have the time or inclination to hop into the whole dating scene.

"Dating, cooking and romance go together because it's a fun hands-on experience," she says. "Cooking forces you to lower inhibitions and let down your guard. It's a great icebreaker and a super fun experience."
