Advanced Placement Exams

 The following information is for exam-only, self-study students. If you are taking an AP course at a VSB school you must register for the exam at your school.
Students wishing to enrol in AP courses can do so through the Vancouver Learning Network (VLN).


Registration for the 2027 Advanced Placement (AP) Examination Period will begin at NOON (PDT), Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026.

ONLY students who attend a VSB school will be able to register for May 2027 AP EXAMS


Registration Requirements

  • *PEN number and birthdate are required for registration (Nine digit PEN found on MyEd or on the top of a report card).
  • Only VSB-enrolled students will be able to register for May 2027 AP Exams.
  • VSB is not offering exam proctoring for non-VSB exam-only students in May 2027.

Fees and Deadline

  • Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Please note, there are a limited number of seats available for each exam. Registrations from September 23 - November 2 will be charged $210 per exam. Registrations after November 2, 2026 (if available) will be charged $285 per exam, which includes the College Board late fee. Registration closes March 4, 2027.
  • Please see the chart at the bottom of this page for AP exams offered by VSB in 2026.
  • Note: The VSB District AP exam site does not offer AP late-testing.
  • Exam payment is non-refundable, under any circumstances.

Exam Format

  • All AP exams are now digital. There are no longer paper-based exams.

AP Exam Registration and Writing Procedures

The following steps must be followed in order to comply with College Board requirements.

 Step 1: Pay for Your Exam

  • Pay for each AP exam online by credit card at: http://apexams.vsb.bc.ca 
  • During registration, provide:
    • Student legal first and last name
    • Phone number
    • Student email address
  • Ensure the email address is accurate and regularly checked.  Important updates, instructions, and exam information will be sent to this address.

Important: Exam fees are non-refundable under any circumstances. No exceptions will be made.  Students must be committed to writing their exam(s) 

Step 2: Ordering Your Exam(s)

  1. After payment is received, students will receive an email within two business days containing a Join Code for each exam they have paid to write. 
  2. Create a College Board account if you do not already have one.
    1. Use your legal first and last name exactly as it appears on your identification. 
  3. Join your AP exam course in College Board using the Join Code provided.
  4. Use the same email address for your College Board account that you used when paying for the exam

ImportantYour exam order is not complete until both Step 1 and Step 2 have been completed.

Deadline: Students must complete Step 2 within 48 hours of receiving their Join Code email.

Failure to do so will result in:

  • Cancellation of registration
  • Forfeiture of all registration fees

Final Registration Deadline: No exams can be ordered after March 5, 2027

Step 3: Write the Exam

Exam Location

All exam-only students will write their exams at:

Vancouver Technical Secondary School (Small Gym),

2600 E Broadway

Vancouver, BC  V5M 1Y5  

Exam Day Requirements

  • arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled exam time. 
    • Students arriving late will not be admitted
  • Bring a valid government-issued photo ID, such as
    • driver’s license
    • passport
    • Certificate of Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card
  • Check the seating plan for your assigned testing seat before you enter the testing area. 
  • Personal electronic devices are not permitted inside the exam area
  • All students will write their exam on a VSB-owned computer using the College Board's Bluebook testing software. 
  • Students must know their College Board login credentials
    • Exam proctors cannot assist with login issues.
    • Students who cannot access their account may be unable to write the exam

Bluebook Preparation

Students are strongly encouraged to download and explore the Bluebook testing application on a personal computer prior to exam day to become familiar with the testing environment.
