VSB Field Use

Sports and play fields at VSB schools are owned and operated by VSB. Our priority is to provide a safe space for students and staff when using our fields.

We recognize the importance of outdoor spaces for community recreation and are pleased to allow public access to our fields outside of school hours. To ensure these shared spaces remain safe and in good condition for usersfield use is guided by Administrative Procedure 553 - Community and Commercial Use of Facilities and Grounds.

VSB field guidelines

School Use Priority: VSB fields are designated for school use during school hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM*) Monday to Friday.

*Note: VSB may host activities or rental groups outside school hours. Priority access will be given to these organized activities.

Community organizations and sports teams must obtain a rental contract for scheduled use of VSB fields. Rental contract applications can be submitted through Facility Rentals.

Dog Policy: Dogs are only allowed to use the fields while on-leash and only outside of school hours, dogs must be leashed at all times while on school property, and owners must dispose of their waste and stop dogs from digging holes.

Restricted Items: Only authorized vehicles or structures are allowed on VSB fields. Unauthorized motorized vehicles, tents, and other structures are not permitted on fields.

Prohibited Activities: Alcohol, smoking, or vaping is strictly prohibited on all school grounds.

Hours of Closure: School grounds are closed 10pm-6am every day, no public use is allowed.

Respect for Property: Please respect school property. Keep fields clean, dispose of waste properly, and respect adjacent school facilities.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in restricted access to VSB fields. We appreciate the community’s cooperation in keeping these spaces safe and welcoming for everyone.

Why is the school field in my neighboured fenced off?

While we strive to keep fields open for the public, in the event public use interferes with school programs or other District initiatives , the District reserves the right to restrict public access to its facilities, as per Administrative Procedure 553.

Restricting public access to a school field is a last resort for the District. Seven out of 110 sites have fields that have been restricted to school use only. Unfortunately, in these instances, the fields were extensively and repeatedly damaged as a result of dogs digging holes and animal waste left behind. This makes the field a tripping and/or hygiene hazard for students and staff, and has disrupted school activities. To ensure the field remains safe and functional for educational use, as well as preserve the condition of the field, the District decided to limit public access.
