Cleaning our schools for post-Spring Break
Although in-class instruction is suspended following Spring Break, District staff are taking steps to protect everyone's health in the face of the COVID-19 crisis. Many of our staff are busy preparing on multiple levels including in very practical ways, such as cleaning all school facilities.
Schools are cleaned thoroughly every school break, but as the District does its part in helping to slow the spread of COVID-19, a deep clean of all school sites is currently underway. This means all surfaces are washed - including desks, chairs, locker doors, locks, drinking fountains, washrooms and other areas.
This work ensures all schools receive a detailed clean with recommended cleaning agents and procedures set by the District's health and safety department and in consultation with Vancouver Coastal Health.
"We are proud of the hard work of local members during this challenging time. The work they are doing is essential to the health of all who enter our schools," says Tim Chester, International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) 963 president.
More than 400 staff District-wide are completing this work, which comprises building engineers, custodians and assistants - all busy ensuring schools are safe spaces.
