A message to students: we’re here for you!

As learning in a new environment moves ahead, Vancouver School District superintendent Suzanne Hoffman, addresses students in her latest video update.

Hoffman says maintaining health and safety among students is something she thinks a lot about. Her other major concern is what students' education looks like.

"How are you staying connected to your teachers and to your work and continuing to be curious about things from a learning lens," she adds. She is inspired by the work teachers are doing with students - and the evidence of that work she sees online and in the District's school communities.

While Hoffman's message is directed at all students, she recognizes for those set to graduate, these last months of the school year will not be what they imagined.

"What I can let you know is that those on track to graduate will graduate. Those that were maybe hoping for a push through April, May, June to improve marks: your teachers will work with you to ensure that that happens," Hoffman assures; explaining districts are also working with post-secondary institutions to make sure any transition to higher learning will occur seamlessly.

Hoffman adds the team at the Vancouver School District is very committed to helping students through this time.

While religious holidays like Passover, Easter, Ramadan and Vaisakhi look very different this year compared to years passed, she hopes those holidays will see students spending lots of quality time with the family members they can safely be around.

Hoffman joins District staff, principals, teachers and support staff throughout the District in their efforts to support students and their families as together, everyone navigates continued learning and efforts to plank the curve of COVID-19.
