Trustees studying rental increases

Vancouver school trustees will receive staff reports and presentations from delegations concerning proposed rental rate increases at the Planning and Facilities Committee (Committee II) meeting on Tuesday, June 29, 2010.

Last spring, the school district's rentals department conducted a review of rates charged to child care providers by surrounding school districts, and in May it was recommended that the rental rates for childcare programs be revised.

Staff is recommending that rental rates for childcare programs be increased to the proposed full cost-recovery rates, phased in over a three-year period, and then revert back to the annual cost of living adjustment for successive years.

Delegations scheduled to appear include representatives of the Childcare Administrator Networks, a parent from Collingwood Neighbourhood House, the City of Vancouver and Franklin Pre-School.

Trustees will also consider recommendations to address billing inconsistencies by applying the board policy non-profit rates to groups operating after-school programs, as well as Boy Scouts and Girl Guides.

The meeting of Committee II will be held in the Boardroom (Room 114) of the Education Centre, 1580 West Broadway, starting at 5:30 p.m. on June 29.
