Queen Mary Students Clean Up in Math League Competition
This year nine students from Queen Mary Elementary took part in the annual international math league competition. They were supported by two teachers and a parent volunteer.
Queen Mary's Grade 5 team consisting of Samuel Gan, Gary Xin, Henry Yu, Cindy Tan, Zavi DelaCuesta, Max Gedajlovic and Alex Mattison. The team placed first in Canada and second in North America out of 1,276 participating schools. Gan was one of fourteen contestants in North America to receive a perfect score, while Xin and Yu tied for fifteenth place in North America.
Other Queen Mary math teams also did very well. Queen Mary's Grade 7 team placed first in B.C. and sixth in Canada with an outstanding fourth place personal score by Tim Barry. Meanwhile, the school's Grade 6 team placed first in B.C. and fourth in Canada with fantastic personal scores by Amily Yao (4th), Kate Mun (15th), and Gary Guang (22nd) in Canada.
